A Visual Guide to the Weald Moors
EXPLORE Even MORE OF THE MOORS!
Bookending the ancient market towns of Wellington and Newport, the vast expanses of the east Shropshire moorlands (which extend for over fifity square kilometres) are home to a number of ancient settlements. Many are located on the islands of mineral soil poking out above the former wetlands and the residents of each were granted their own particular rights over the surrounding lands – a heritage that survives in the names of the many individual moors that comprise the area.
In the Gallery, we’ve selected a number of images to give you a flavour of the moorlands – organised around ten seperate locations. To find them, just click on the pins in the map, or scroll down beneath it to find a handy list feature that will guide you directly to each.
