Where Georgian Elegance Abounds
Notable for the spectacular Georgian almshouse splendour of Preston Hospital, this former canalside village sits on a peninsula above what was known for many centuries as the Rough Moor. A huge expanse of peatland and scrub where locals could graze cattle and collect timber, it once stretched for nearly six miles across the Weald Moors
